Concerts are my (sorta) new thing.

Well, all anybody's been doing lately is working.

It's driving some of us a little crazy.

... even the lovably nutty Nicole from Brandname.

However, I did get to go to a fabulous Cake concert last week, but I didn't bring my camera. I managed to smuggle Dustin's in, however, because they like to frisk the boys, but the girls get to go right in.

I also got to chill with Dustin's fabulous fam, his parents in town from California and his sister/brother-in-law about to move to California.

Friday morning I boarded the subway to find a woman standing across from me, reading a novel called "Fourplay... The Dance of Sensuality." I thought it was funny to be reading such a thing at 9 in the morning on the subway, and she seemed so enraptured by it that I decided to take a stealthy secret picture of her. Unfortunately, I forgot to turn off the flash and was mighty embarrassed when it went off as I took the pic. I'm sure she was exponentially more embarrassed than I was, though.

It was foggy that night, and lovely. Muggy and cold at the same time. Truly Gotham City.

The next night we went to see Dustin's college friend Michael Leviton, to whom you can listen here. I recommend listening to "Pleasure Island." That one's great. He was dreamily sweet as always, and even did one song without his ukelele. I captured the rare moment.

But the real fun of the night was Alec Ounsworth, who usually fronts Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, but tonight he was on his own, though backed up by the kickin'-est pregnant drummer, phenomenal guitarist, and slide guitarist to boot.

Memories...

Today's pic o' the day:

From all the way back when Dustin and I had only known each other for five days, in Summer of 2004.

... before the Mustache.

Sunday Afternoon in New York

Took it easy this weekend. Chilled out and enjoyed the Sunday afternoon warm-up. It was almost 50 degrees!!

We did the Sunday crossword on a bench in the middle of the street on Upper Broadway. We were luckily seated between an old Italian couple and a pair of dudes from a country whose language I can't begin to recognize.

This dude was so comfy he took off his shoes!

Side Note: you know, some NYC graffitti can be simple, elegant and sweet. I caught a glimpse of this while descending into a subway underpass:

Eat, Drink, Be Merry

Ah me. A lovely Christmastime with the fam.

It was sunny.

We played Cranium and hilarity ensued.

Upon my return, I decided to just not have any expectations for my New Year's Eve. That way I could hardly be disappointed, as in many a year past. So Dustin and I went to his ex-girl's house party in her papa's garage.

We saw many fabulous (and interesting) fashions.

Including The Ex, Charlotte, who made her own gown and was very cool.

There was even a marching band! The Hungry Marching Band, to be exact.

People boogied down.

But not everybody.

Everybody was kissin' at midnight.

Even us.

Happy 2006!!!!!!
