New Freakout

Please let me introduce you to a woman I wish I knew - Vivian Maier.

An unknown street photographer of the 1950s and '60s, sassy Ms. Maier possessed an unfathomable amount of talent and worked hard to create her style through decades of studying other artists and experimenting with photography on the streets of Chicago while working as a nanny (her charges compared her to Mary Poppins).

Her work was discovered in the form of some 40,000 film negatives at a storage auction by a lucky bastard who decided to create an amazing website dedicated to her work and get a documentary made about her (forthcoming).

Her photographs just destroy me. There is seemingly no limit to the elegance, humanity, depth which she brings to each photo. It's immediate, and it's expressive, and it's reflective.

This stuff rocks me! Inspires me! Almost makes me cry!

Check her out here and here.

love,

Wow, these are wonderful. So curious to learn more of her and why/how she remained in obscurity. A great story of his finding her and, oh, just too late for her. One of my favorites is March 20 post.

Such artistry in the common man.

Thanks for sharing.
